Wangaratta Rovers claim third straight premiership under modern points system
Wangaratta Rovers beat Wangaratta 15.14 (104) to 9.15 (69) to secure their third consecutive Ovens and Murray premiership.
Wangaratta Rovers won the OMFNL grand final at Lavington Sportsground in front of 6673 spectators on Sunday, claiming a hat-trick of premierships for the first time since the modern player points system came in.
The Hawks were underdogs after losing to Wangaratta by 43 points just two weeks earlier, but dominated the match to win by 35 points. Ed Dayman, the Rovers' ruck, won best on ground despite playing with a broken left hand.
Former Geelong player Mitch Hardie kicked two goals, and former Carlton player Lochie O'Brien kicked a 52-metre goal. In the final minutes, both teams had players sent off as the Hawks celebrated their 18th premiership.
