Mazda CX-6e eyes fourth spot in Australia's EV sales race
Mazda's CX-6e could rank fourth among Australia's best-selling electric vehicles if the CEO's 1000-per-month forecast holds.
Mazda's new mid-sized electric SUV smashed pre-order expectations, with all 1000 complimentary upgrade offers claimed within weeks of the March launch. CEO Vinesh Bhindi predicts the CX-6e could eventually reach 1000 sales per month, behind only the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7 and Geely EX5.
The forecast depends on fuel prices and government tax incentives remaining favourable. The CX-6e starts at $53,990, undercutting the Model Y by nearly $5,000.
More than half the pre-orders came from new Mazda customers, suggesting strong crossover appeal rather than cannibalising the brand's petrol-powered CX-5.

Why it mattersIf Mazda's prediction proves right, it shows electric SUVs are gaining serious ground in Australia's mainstream vehicle market, not just for early adopters.
AustraliaElectric vehicle sales in Australia continue climbing, with new models from major brands offering cheaper entry points and government incentives making the switch more appealing.
