Carlton chases Whitfield to add speed and ball skills

Carlton wants to recruit 32-year-old defender Lachie Whitfield from GWS to improve the team's ability to move the ball by foot.

Carlton football manager Chris Davies said the club's pursuit of Whitfield comes from a need for faster running play and accurate kicking. Whitfield has one year left on his GWS contract, and the Giants are open to letting him leave.

The Blues have also just signed Sydney player Joel Amartey and are planning to draft young prospect Cody Walker. Captain Patrick Cripps will discuss his future and captaincy with the club after the trade period ends.
