Keilor East station to open by 2031 in Melbourne Airport rail expansion
A new 7.4-kilometre rail line from Albion via Keilor East to the airport will open by 2031.
Victoria's and federal governments announced today that early work on the second stage of the Melbourne Airport rail project will begin in coming weeks. Major construction won't start until 2028, with the Keilor East station due for completion three years later.
The line includes a 500-metre rail bridge over the Maribyrnong River and will connect directly to the Metro Tunnel. The Sunshine Superhub, the project's first stage, will cost $4.1 billion and has six platforms.
A timeline for the rail line between Keilor East and the airport itself is still to be finalised. The project has faced repeated delays, with completion targets previously set for 2029, then 2033.
