Newcastle Uni vice-chancellor Alex Zelinsky to step down in February 2027

Vice-chancellor Alex Zelinsky is retiring in February 2027. He was the university's eighth leader for eight years.

University of Newcastle vice-chancellor Professor Alex Zelinsky announced he will retire in February 2027. Zelinsky took the role in November 2018.

He led the university through what he calls significant growth and transformation. His contract had been extended to 2028.

But he is leaving earlier than that. Chancellor Patricia Forsythe said the University Council will start the formal process to find a replacement.

Zelinsky said there is still much to achieve in the coming months. He looks forward to working with students, staff and community partners before he steps down.
