Lake Macquarie approves growth plan as Wyee set to expand to 7,308
Lake Macquarie Council adopted a new growth blueprint for Wyee projecting its population to surge from 2,909 to 7,308 residents by 2046.
The Hunter council replaced a 17-year-old plan on Monday night. It recognised rapid growth that the old plan no longer reflected.
Wyee's population jumped almost 21 per cent between 2016 and 2021. This far exceeded the citywide average of about 5.7 per cent.
The new strategy maps housing, jobs, transport and infrastructure. It covers six precincts centred on the town centre and railway station.
The plan aims to protect environmental assets and the area's character while managing expansion. The broader Greater Morisset Growth Area, which includes Wyee, Morisset and Cooranbong, is forecast to grow from 18,096 to 38,000 residents.
Council said the plan ensures growth is matched by proper infrastructure. Roads, facilities and services will expand alongside population rather than falling behind.
