Finder founder's $200m fortune built from $1.36m sale
Fred Schebesta, worth more than $200 million, launched Finder as a simple credit-card comparison website.
Twenty years ago, Schebesta and Frank Restuccia sold their digital marketing agency for $1.36 million and used it to start Finder, a website comparing credit cards. The idea seemed simple at the time.
Today Finder tracks what Australians search for, compare and switch. Schebesta uses those insights to argue the country is being squeezed by rising costs.
The company now pays customers between $200 and $500 to switch services like health insurance. It has handed back around $2 million to customers in the past 12 months alone.
Schebesta lives in a $30 million home on Coogee's cliffs, nicknamed Crypto Castle. But he still drives his kids to school most mornings because of the connection time it creates.
