Samsung may ditch Snapdragon for own chip in Galaxy S27 Ultra
Samsung told Qualcomm its Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 fails performance and thermal requirements.
Samsung is considering ditching Qualcomm's latest flagship chip for its own Exynos 2700 in the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The reason is overheating and performance throttling issues.
Qualcomm has until the end of October to fix the problems. If it does, Samsung will stick with Snapdragon as planned.
Samsung's Exynos 2700 has outperformed Qualcomm's chip in internal testing. It was faster and more power efficient.
The switch would mark a major change for Samsung. It has largely relied on Snapdragon for Ultra models since the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Using its own chip could also help Samsung reduce costs. This matters now because memory prices are rising.
