Utility Thomas Cant is ready to fill any role for Newcastle in Sunday's grand final.
Thomas Cant, 24, is preparing to answer the call from Newcastle Knights coach Justin Holbrook in Sunday's NRL grand final against the Roosters in Sydney. The homegrown utility has been an unused substitute for the last two finals matches.
Phoenix Crossland's four-match suspension, handed down on Tuesday night, could give Cant a more defined role. Cant could be deployed as back-up hooker to Harrison Graham or even starting as dummy-half.
The East Maitland Griffins junior has already played hooker this year, so the position is familiar. He has played five different positions, left back-row, right back-row, front-row, hooker and lock, in a single game, possibly against the Roosters.
Cant has made 39 NRL appearances, with 17 coming this season. Only 29 players have previously represented the Knights in an NRL decider.
