Knights game free to watch at Newcastle stadium during grand final
Newcastle Knights fans who can't get Accor Stadium tickets can watch the grand final free at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday.
NSW opened McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle as a free live site for the Knights' first NRL grand final against the Sydney Roosters on Sunday. Accor Stadium tickets are almost impossible to get, making the home ground the best spot for fans locked out.
Gates open at 3.30pm with the NRLW grand final between the Roosters and Broncos shown first on big screens, followed by the NRL match. Fans can bring a picnic rug and watch from the field or sit in the grandstands.
Food and drink outlets will be open. Free tickets are available via Ticketmaster from Thursday at 10am through gates two and three.
Maitland City Council is also hosting a free live site at Maitland Regional Sportsground with a 10-metre screen and a replay of the 1997 grand final when the Knights beat the Sea Eagles.
