Fiji Airways drops Canberra route for Western Sydney Airport
Fiji Airways will stop flying from Canberra to Nadi in early 2027, switching to Western Sydney because of its large Fijian community.
Western Sydney International Airport opens for passengers on Sunday, and it is already affecting Canberra Airport's route network. Fiji Airways announced in August that it will end direct flights from Canberra to Nadi, Fiji in early 2027 and shift them to Western Sydney instead.
The airline cited Western Sydney's location near a major Fijian community outside Fiji as a key factor. Qatar Airways also plans flights from Western Sydney starting December 15.
Canberra Airport is fighting back with Virgin Australia's new flights to Bali and Qatar Airways due December 9. FlixBus launched a bus connection from Canberra to Western Sydney on Sunday with fares from $29.99.
