Richard Hammond finds new life running, swimming in Wales

Richard Hammond says he is happier than ever since moving to a Welsh mansion. He has taken up running and open water swimming.

The former Top Gear presenter is 56. He bought a £2 million home near Abergavenny in November 2025 after his divorce ended a 23-year marriage.

With the Brecon Beacons national park on his doorstep, he joined a local running club. He cut his 5k time to under 25 minutes.

Richard Hammond also took up open water swimming after his girlfriend took part in a triathlon. Rather than attending classic car festivals, he now samples cheeses and whiskies at food events.

His renovated home will include car garages and a padel court. He is working around rare bats found on the property.

His energy levels have been replenished and he feels braver than ever.
