Murder victim's sister confronts killer Jacob Bell at sentencing hearing

Eddy Lemalama's sister delivered a victim impact statement at Jacob Bell's sentencing hearing.

Rosie Lemalama stood in Newcastle Supreme Court and directly confronted Jacob Bell, the 24-year-old convicted of murdering her brother Eddy outside a home in Windale last year. Eddy, a father of seven, was stabbed in the chest and back during a confrontation.

Rosie's statement challenged Bell to imagine her family's grief and asked how he could sleep knowing he had taken another life. Bell appeared unmoved by the message.

He claimed self-defence but was convicted of murder by a jury in June. Justice Dina Yehia will sentence Bell in November.

The court will decide three facts: whether Bell only intended to kill Lemalama, whether he came seeking him out, and whether he brought the knife to the house.
