Savvy Spy wins at Rosehill, then dumps jockey
The four-year-old gelding won by one-and-a-quarter lengths but side-stepped near the finish line, unseating jockey Tim Clark.
Savvy Spy sealed an impressive victory in the Ranvet Handicap at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, stretching clear late to win by one-and-a-quarter lengths. The emerging four-year-old is building serious form under trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
As Savvy Spy was brought back to the mounting yard for photos, the horse suddenly side-stepped and deposited Tim Clark on the turf near the winning post. Clark suffered nothing more than a bruised ego and was able to walk back uninjured.
The jockey said he was posing for the photo and didn't see it coming. Racing expert Lizzie Jelfs noted these falls near the finish can be tricky, even when they look harmless.
