Perth man faces life sentence on terrorism planning charge

A 22-year-old Perth man was charged with planning terrorist acts. The charge carries life imprisonment.

Police charged the man after searching his Westminster home in Perth's north. The man tried to find information on a messaging platform.

The man wanted details about bombs, military training, weapons and combat techniques. An electronic device found during the search held violent extremist material.

In October, he was charged with attacking and threatening to kill a woman. Three agencies worked together on the charges.

These were Western Australia Police, Australian Federal Police and Australian Security Intelligence Organisation.

Why it mattersThe growing charges show how serious authorities think his plans were. They also show the maximum punishment allowed by law.
