Reuben Zachary Butler, 26, pleaded guilty to 17 charges in Bendigo Magistrates Court on October 5. The charges include assaulting an emergency service worker, possessing cannabis, and unlicensed driving.
The court heard police linked him to a crash in Junortoun in the early hours of April 27, 2025. The link partly relied on a Domino's pizza box found in the front passenger seat.
A receipt bearing the name 'Reuban' was found alongside the box. Butler denied being the car's driver or that it was stolen.
In Hargreaves Mall, police used pepper spray, then a Taser, when he moved toward them with a clenched fist. The magistrate, Megan Aumair, disqualified him from driving for six years.
His lawyer, Kate Lawn, said he is now on medication and has had no new offending since January 2026.
Why it mattersSmall clues, like a pizza receipt, can help police link someone to a crash long after it happens.
AustraliaIn Victoria, a court can ban a driver for years, as this magistrate did for six years.
