Novig says trading volume rose nearly 94% around Sydney Sweeney's sports ad
Novig says first-time depositors rose more than 218% and app downloads rose more than 187%.
Novig is a prediction market, a platform where people trade on the results of sports events. Actress Sydney Sweeney starred in the company's 'Just Sports' ad, which was unveiled on September 9.
Sweeney said in the video: there is no betting on wars or deaths, and no politics. Co-founder Jacob Fortinsky told CNBC that trading volume rose nearly 94% in the 20 days around the campaign launch.
First-time depositors, meaning people putting money in for the first time, rose more than 218%. In September, active users were up 96% on August and 260% on a year earlier.
App downloads also jumped by more than 187%. Some female athletes criticised the ad, saying it hurt progress on how women in sports are seen.
Co-founder Jacob Fortinsky said the company had nothing to apologise for.
