After 60 years, Michael Goessling reunites with Doobie Brothers father

Michael Goessling, adopted nearly 60 years ago, discovered via DNA test that his father is Doobie Brothers singer Michael McDonald.

A DNA test gave Michael Goessling an unexpected answer: his biological father is Michael McDonald, the legendary Doobie Brothers musician. Goessling was given up for adoption as an infant when McDonald and his girlfriend were just 14 years old.

By chance, the couple who adopted Goessling also named him Michael. When the two men finally met, the reunion was warm and immediate.

McDonald told his son he was a musician; Goessling asked if he was Michael McDonald, and McDonald said yes. The first embrace was a bear hug, with McDonald telling his son he loved him.

McDonald said he had carried guilt about the adoption for decades but was relieved to learn his son had lived a good life.
