Drink driver blows 0.292 after destroying cafe fence and tree
A West Wodonga man crashed into a cafe with a blood alcohol reading of 0.292, almost six times the legal limit.
A white Toyota lost control at the Wigg Street roundabout in Wodonga on Wednesday evening, mounted a footpath and destroyed fencing and a downpipe at the Crossroads Cafe and Eatery. The car then hit a tree.
Witnesses reported that the driver attempted to leave the scene but was strongly encouraged to remain until police arrived. The 29-year-old returned a preliminary breath test of 0.261, and later an evidentiary test of 0.292.
The man was given an immediate 12-month driving ban.
