Drug rider gets jail time plus two-year driving ban after meth-fuelled ride
A man was jailed three months and banned from driving two years after riding a motorcycle on a footpath while on methamphetamine.
Anthony Robert Adams appeared in Launceston Magistrates Court on driving and bail breach charges. On May 1, 2026, police caught him riding on the Bathurst Street footpath while disqualified.
An oral fluid test showed methamphetamine in his system; he told police he had used meth an hour before riding. Adams pleaded guilty to riding while disqualified and bail breaches.
For breaching a suspended sentence, magistrate Jackie Hartnett sentenced him to three months' jail, backdated to July. For the new driving and drug offences, she imposed a 10-month drug treatment program with a custodial order rather than further jail time.
Adams is disqualified from driving for two years. Hartnett expressed doubt the treatment would work, citing his poor compliance record with previous court orders.
