H5 bird flu spreads across NSW, now at 30 confirmed cases
H5 bird flu has been detected in Goulburn alongside four other new NSW regions, bringing the state total to 30 confirmed cases.
The H5 strain of bird flu has been found in five NSW regions. Goulburn reported a Greater Crested Tern with the virus.
Dee Why and Hawks Nest also had infections in the same species. Moruya has cases in Silver Gulls and Congo in White-fronted Terns.
The NSW Government is working closely with the poultry industry in Goulburn to stop the virus spreading to captive bird flocks. Risk to humans remains low.
The chief veterinary officer confirmed there have been no signs of mass mortality so far. NSW recommends poultry owners voluntarily house their birds.
Residents should report any sick or dead wild birds via the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline.
