David Jones enters administration after 188 years
David Jones, a historic Australian department store, entered voluntary administration after 188 years in business.
David Jones has been part of Australian retail since 1838. The retailer has now entered voluntary administration.
The chain still operates 38 stores across Australia and New Zealand, including locations in Canberra. In the ACT, the Woden site faces particular risk following rent disputes with landlord Scentre Group.
The collapse puts roughly 6,000 employees at risk just weeks before Christmas. Administrators are now checking the company's finances to see what can be saved.
Landlords, suppliers and contractors are owed millions in unpaid rent and services.
