Honda to sell Mitsubishi Triton-based ute in Asia from 2028

Honda will sell a rebadged Triton across Asia from 2028, made in Thailand.

Honda and Mitsubishi signed a memorandum of understanding this week. Mitsubishi will supply Honda with utes built at its factory in Laem Chabang, Thailand.

The ute will go on sale across the ASEAN region starting in 2028. ASEAN has 11 member countries: Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Singapore and Timor-Leste.

Honda has not announced a name for the vehicle yet. The company has not said how many it plans to sell.

The arrangement lets Honda expand its product line quickly. It helps Mitsubishi boost production at its Thai plant.

Expect minimal changes to the Honda version. Look for a new grille, bumpers, badging, and possibly different headlights and tail-lights.

Why it mattersIt shows how major carmakers are sharing platforms to cut costs and reach more markets, a trend affecting vehicle choice and pricing.

AustraliaAustralian ute buyers follow these Asian launches closely; if Honda eventually brings the rebadged Triton here, it would add another competitor to the crowded ute market.
