Rockhampton rowing course clears international sports bodies' assessment
Queensland's Rockhampton rowing and canoe course has been cleared by World Rowing and Paddle Worldwide for Olympic and Paralympic competition.
The Fitzroy River course in Rockhampton passed assessment from the world governing bodies for rowing and canoe sprint, Queensland Premier David Crisafulli announced Thursday. The WaterProof Marine Consultancy report found the course offers safe and fair racing.
The government has not released the report for independent check, drawing criticism from the Opposition. Environmental assessments and final infrastructure checks still need to be completed.
The venue design is 80 per cent finished. World Rowing and Paddle Worldwide both endorsed the course for Olympic competition.
