Stepfather sentenced for assault on child in Albury court
A Lavington man pleaded guilty to assaulting his stepson over a sibling quarrel and was sentenced to a seven-month intensive correctional order.
A 46-year-old Lavington man has been sentenced after grabbing his stepson by the neck and making threats during a drunken incident on May 17. The two children were fighting in their parents' bedroom when the man came down the hallway and grabbed the child by the back of the neck.
The man told the boy he would kill him if he touched his daughter. The boy's mother pushed the man away and the boy ran outside.
The man pleaded guilty to common assault, breaching an apprehended violence order, and intimidation. Judge Chris Halburd noted he has a serious alcohol problem but said it did not excuse the behaviour.
