Autumn Glow wins VRC Champions Mile as trainer hails her Winx potential
Autumn Glow won the $3 million VRC Champions Mile at Flemington, with trainer Chris Waller saying the champion mare could rival Winx.
Autumn Glow, Australia's best racehorse, won the $3 million VRC Champions Mile at Flemington, working hard in the final stretch to beat stablemate Lindermann. The $1.18 favourite had to charge home in the last 100 metres after finding her footing on the Melbourne course for the first time.
Trainer Chris Waller said Autumn Glow ranks among the finest horses he has trained. Waller previously trained Winx, the legendary mare known for her dominance.
Asked to compare the two, Waller said Autumn Glow could beat Winx on her day, though Winx's longevity over four or five years set her apart. Jockey James McDonald made history in the race, becoming the first rider to win a Group 1 race in all four Cup week features.
