Meta buried its AI opt-out form in privacy settings and never told Australians

Meta has offered Australians an opt-out form since July 2025 but made no announcement, leaving the choice hidden.

Meta quietly introduced a way for Australians to stop the tech giant from training its AI on their personal data. The company never announced the change.

An objection form has been available in Australian privacy settings since July 2025. The EU had the same option since 2024.

The company made no announcement when it appeared locally, and no users were notified directly by Meta. Digital rights advocates say the company deliberately kept it hidden because it wants access to as much user data as possible.

The form exists, but most people will never find it buried in privacy pages. Users who submit it will get an email confirming Meta will not use their public data to train AI going forward.

Why it mattersMeta gave Australians a choice but did not announce it, so most people who want to protect their data will not find it.

AustraliaAustralian Meta users can now opt out of AI training, but Meta's silence means most will not know the choice exists.
