Blake Mozer freed by Broncos despite remaining contract through 2027
The 22-year-old has been granted immediate release from his contract to find another NRL club.
Blake Mozer, once regarded as the Broncos' hooker of the future, has been granted permission to leave the club effective immediately. The 22-year-old is contracted until the end of 2027 but coach Michael Maguire has given him the go-ahead to find another team.
Mozer was compared to rugby league legend Cameron Smith but injuries have derailed his career, limiting him to just 16 NRL games since his 2023 debut. Mozer has appeared exclusively off the bench and remains behind Billy Walters and Cory Paix in the hooker pecking order.
The Broncos tried loan deals to the Bulldogs and St Helens this season to get him game time, but those fell through. With Walters and Paix re-signed and Ben Hunt also competing for the hooker role in 2027, Mozer's future became untenable.
Two months ago, Maguire said Mozer "has a future" here, making the release a sharp reversal.
