Canberra Raiders spend $4 million on US-style gym upgrade
The $4 million project adds a 40-metre indoor kicking zone and new coaching staff offices at their Braddon base.
The Canberra Raiders are spending $4 million to expand their Braddon training centre. A new 40-metre section will include indoor kicking nets, letting players practice place kicking, punting and field goals inside, something common in American sports.
The expansion also includes new offices for coaching and medical staff, plus a screening room for injury checks. Out front, the club is building a walkway of honour with plaques for players who have played 200+ NRL games or 100+ NRLW games for Canberra.
CEO Don Furner said the upgrade was needed because the facility, opened in 2019, now hosts both men's and women's teams plus junior programs. Tours to the US and UK inspired the kicking nets feature, which Furner said sets elite clubs apart.
Work is underway ahead of the 2027 pre-season.
