Rain threatens Bathurst 1000 qualifying shootout on Saturday with 90 per cent
Rain threatens to scramble Saturday's Bathurst top-ten pole shootout.
The Supercars field is preparing for slippery conditions at Mount Panorama on Saturday. The official forecast predicts a 90 per cent chance of rain.
There is a 75 per cent chance of at least 1 millimetre and a 50 per cent chance of at least 3 millimetres. Showers are expected most likely in the morning and afternoon, with possible thunderstorms.
The high-stakes top-ten shootout begins just after 5pm AEST. Only Friday's fastest qualifiers compete for pole position.
DJR's Brodie Kostecki is seeking his fourth consecutive Bathurst pole. Wet conditions could easily scramble the starting order if any front-runners lose control and hit the barrier.
By contrast, Sunday's 1000-kilometre race is forecast to be sunny. Last year, the race finished in wet conditions.
Matthew Payne and Garth Tander claimed victory despite James Golding crossing the line first.
