Tribunal blocks old allegations in Rick Shegog's dismissal case
The department was blocked from using unproven allegations dating back more than 20 years.
Rick Shegog is deputy mayor of West Tamar Council and is running for mayor in this month's election. The health department ended his employment on September 30, 2025, citing internal breaches of the state service code of conduct.
Mr Shegog has challenged the dismissal at the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. Commissioner Tim Abey blocked the department from using allegations dating back more than 20 years.
Mr Shegog was tried over a charge of unlawfully setting fire to property, and was found not guilty in 2006. The commissioner said the tribunal has no power to rule on the allegations, which are not proven.
The department can still use an allegation that he failed to disclose his police dismissal when applying for a job in 2006. A hearing will take place later this month.
