Car crashes into Knights send-off crowd, injuring 10

Ten people were injured when a car crashed into a crowd. It happened at the Newcastle Knights' Saturday send-off parade.

The car lost control at a roundabout on Newcastle Link Road. This happened during the send-off for the team's first grand final in 25 years.

The car crashed into about 1,000 fans gathered there. Chris Clancy is a machinery hire worker from Heatherbrae.

He was among those injured. He suffered a broken collarbone and multiple fractures to his ribs, foot and spine.

Chris Clancy's nephews Tom and Matt were with him. One was pushed to safety moments before the car struck.

Despite his injuries, Clancy was released from hospital on Sunday evening. He went to watch the Knights play their grand final.

The crash overshadowed what should have been a happy celebration. A city had waited decades for this moment.
