Dale Elphinstone inducted into international mining hall of fame
Dale Elphinstone became the first person outside the US inducted into the National Mining Hall of Fame in 2024.
Burnie businessman Dale Elphinstone started his own enterprise in 1975 and acquired William Adams in 1987 to become a Caterpillar equipment dealer. The Elphinstone Group grew into a global operation employing around 3000 people.
Dale Elphinstone helped save King Island's tungsten mine when the operator, Group 6 Metals Limited, faced a financial crisis. This was a homecoming for him, as he had worked at the mine in his early career.
In 2024 he became the first person outside the US to be inducted into the National Mining Hall of Fame. Elphinstone is also a major philanthropist.
He has funded health services and equipment across the North-West region. His daughter Kelly Elphinstone is a leader in the business in her own right.
