Man attacked by shark while surfing in WA's Midwest
A man in his 50s was bitten by a shark while surfing at Glenfield Beach and is in serious but stable condition.
The man was surfing at Glenfield Beach, north of Geraldton in Western Australia's Midwest. Glenfield Beach is about 430 kilometres north of Perth.
The man was attacked around 9:45am on Monday. St John Ambulance took him to Geraldton Health Campus under priority one conditions.
Staff say he is in serious but stable condition. Officials removed his badly damaged surfboard from the scene.
They are testing it to identify the shark species. The beach has been closed.
Residents have been asked to avoid the area. Fisheries officials are working with local authorities to respond.
