Golfer Brett Rankin competing on tour while daughter fights leukaemia
Australian pro golfer Brett Rankin is competing in Asia. His three-year-old daughter Dakota is undergoing treatment for B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
Rankin flew to Chinese Taipei last Sunday to compete in an Asian Tour event. Rankin calls it one of the hardest trips of his career.
Dakota began showing constant fatigue earlier this year. Dakota asked to be carried and came home from daycare exhausted.
After repeated pneumonia and chest infections, doctors confirmed B-ALL, the most common childhood leukaemia type. The treatment plan spans almost three years.
She has progressed to low-risk status after responding well to the initial phase. That phase included daily steroids and chemotherapy.
Rankin said the toughest moments come before and after rounds. Those are when Dakota asks him to come home.
