Two teenagers charged after stolen car crash near Maitland
Two 14-year-olds face court. One is accused of stealing the car and crashing it. His passenger was injured.
Police say a 14-year-old stole a sedan from a property in Ashtonfield near Maitland. The 14-year-old lost control at South Seas Drive in the early hours of Tuesday, September 29.
The car became airborne and rolled. The car landed outside a residential property.
The driver allegedly fled the scene, leaving his 14-year-old passenger injured. Paramedics assessed the passenger at the scene and took him to hospital.
His injuries were not life-threatening. Police found a mobile phone and balaclava in the vehicle.
The passenger was later charged with aggravated breaking-and-entering and being carried in an allegedly stolen car. Officers initially refused bail before it was formally refused in a children's court.
The driver remains in custody and faces court on Tuesday, October 6.
