School teacher Callum Draper takes Bears coaching role
Callum Draper, a 28-year-old teacher at Weeroona College, becomes head coach of the regional football club.
Callum Draper has stepped up from player to senior coach at Bears Lagoon-Serpentine. Draper has played at the club for four years after arriving from Golden Square, where he appeared in 46 senior games.
Draper is a school teacher by trade and said the move combines two things he is passionate about. Draper takes over after Jake Wilkinson stood down following three years in the role.
The Bears finished eighth this year with a 5-13 record, missing the finals for the first time since 2016. Draper wants to recruit key defenders and bigger-bodied midfield players to help the club push back into contention.
