Terry Denton, Treehouse illustrator, dies aged 76
Children's illustrator Terry Denton, who created the Treehouse books with author Andy Griffiths for three decades, has died in Victoria aged 76.
Terry Denton died surrounded by family near Melbourne on Monday. Denton's illustrations for the Treehouse series, beginning with the 13-Storey Treehouse, sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and brought Australian humour to children in some 35 countries.
Denton also illustrated the Gasp! series, which became a television adaptation.
Denton worked closely with author Andy Griffiths for three decades, ending their collaboration after 13 books in the Treehouse sequence. Griffiths described their partnership as "a match made in heaven" and said Denton's lack of ego made their creative work flow.
The pair surprised themselves when their books found audiences far beyond Australia. Denton had suffered poor health in recent years.
