Warrnambool teenager launches skateboard brand to build youth community
Charlie Miller, a Warrnambool College Year 12 student, launched SKOCKZ, a skateboard apparel brand to bring young people together through skateboarding and improve mental health.
A broken arm sidelined Charlie Miller from skateboarding for a couple of months, but the downtime sparked a business idea. The Year 12 student will officially launch SKOCKZ on Monday at Warrnambool skate park.
SKOCKZ sells hoodies, t-shirts, socks and clay collectibles. While recovering, Charlie watched his friends at the skate park and realised how the community there helped him through isolation.
SKOCKZ now has about 10 products and has already made some online sales, with 100 pairs of socks on the way. Charlie designed everything using Illustrator and Canva.
He plans to take a gap year and then study design at university. The launch event includes a free barbecue at the skate park from noon.
