Wakefield Trinity face Warrington in first-ever Super League Grand Final after
Wakefield Trinity, relegated just three years ago, will play Warrington in their maiden Super League Grand Final on Saturday.
Wakefield Trinity were a mess: relegated from Super League in 2023 with a crumbling stadium, plastic chairs on the bench, and crowds below 5,000. Matt Ellis, a boyhood fan, took over in late 2023 with £10 million in investment.
The turnaround has been staggering. Trinity won the Championship title and returned to Super League; last year they reached the playoffs; this year they earned a Grand Final spot, their first ever in the Super League era.
Now they face Warrington on Saturday at Old Trafford in front of more than 70,000 supporters. Crowds at Wakefield have climbed to over 9,000 this season.
The town is transformed: merchandise sold out before arriving; supporters of all ages wear Trinity colours. Players who remember plastic-chair dressing rooms now lead a club at the centre of rugby league.
