Scarborough's first farmers market draws 1000 on opening day
1000 people attended opening day of new weekly market at Scarborough Primary School.
Scarborough's first dedicated farmers market launched last weekend and exceeded expectations. The new market runs every Saturday from 8am to 12pm at Scarborough Primary School.
The market hosts more than 30 stalls selling fresh produce, coffee, baked goods, handmade soap, jewellery and plants. Local suppliers include Canning Orchard and West Road Farm.
The school committee never expected such a crowd. The government's farmers market grant scheme offered up to $50,000 per market.
It helped cover planning, compliance and equipment costs. No other farmers markets currently serve the area.
