Three swimmers drown at Hunter beaches in dangerous conditions
Three men died after getting into trouble at separate Hunter beaches during hot weather on the weekend.
A man in his 20s drowned at Stockton beach on Sunday afternoon. He was pulled from the water with two other men.
The same day, a second man in his 20s died at Saltwater beach, south east of Taree. Three men got into trouble in the water there.
On Saturday, a third man in his 50s was found in the water at Cabarita beach. Members of the public tried to save him, but he died in hospital.
Lifesavers and firefighters issued warnings as temperatures hit 29 degrees in Newcastle. Crowds rushed to the water to cool off.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecast Newcastle would reach 31 degrees on Monday.
