Tasmanian chef, 19, wins three silver medals at national competition
Sophie Batterham won three silver medals at the Nestlé Golden Chef's Hat Award grand final in Melbourne after claiming the state title.
Sophie Batterham grew up cooking with her grandma on a farm at Selbourne in Tasmania's Meander Valley. Last month, the 19-year-old won the state Nestlé Golden Chef's Hat Award in Launceston and travelled to Melbourne for the grand final.
Sophie Batterham competed against 10 other top young chefs from Australia and New Zealand, each cooking an entree, main and dessert in three hours using Nestlé products. Ms Batterham returned home with three silver medals.
She now works as a chef at Joseph Chromy Wines, one of Tasmania's finest restaurants. Her long-term goal is opening her own paddock-to-plate restaurant.
