Three generations create fairy house trails for Port Fairy school holidays
Three generations created fairy house trails across Port Fairy and nearby gardens, running until October 4.
Hidden in the gardens and reserves of Port Fairy and nearby towns, six trails wind past hand-built fairy houses. The fairy houses were created by 21-year-old artist Jenna Winnen, her mum Kate, and her nan Hester Woodrup.
Jenna said Tinkerbell and the Hobbiton set in New Zealand inspired her gourd house in Port Fairy Botanic Gardens. Hester pitched the trails idea to Moyne Shire Council, which backed it with funding and support.
The event runs over school holidays through October 4. It offers kids a reason to leave their screens and explore.
Kate Winnen built a Dutch windmill fairy house. She hopes the program attracts visitors to Port Fairy and nearby Koroit and Mortlake during the quiet winter season.
