Acton Waterfront development gets $2.25m federal boost
Commonwealth pledges $2.25 million to plan Acton Waterfront mixed-use neighbourhood with 1400 dwellings.
The Albanese government has committed $2.25 million for planning and work on Acton Waterfront, a major housing project at West Basin in Canberra. The plan includes about 1400 dwellings across six hectares, housing 2000 residents.
Eight-storey buildings will line Commonwealth Avenue, stepping down toward Lake Burley Griffin. At least 15 per cent will be affordable homes.
The design aims to create a lakeside neighbourhood connecting the city centre with the lake. It will have shops, offices and a hotel.
Ngamawari, a new public park, is already under construction. It is due for completion in 2028, with playgrounds, gardens, event spaces and public art.
The project is estimated to contribute $1.9 billion to the economy over 40 years.
