A fire damaged the PERTH sign at Yagan Square, one of Perth's most-loved landmarks. The sign has been at the central city venue for eight years.
The sign has been a backdrop for countless visitor photos and cultural celebrations. The fire was reported to emergency services at 2:30pm on Wednesday and put out by 2:50pm.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control in less than five minutes. A worker at a nearby bar said there were plenty of people around the square until security moved onlookers away.
Development WA, which manages the square, declined to comment as the fire remains under investigation. Yagan Square sits between the Perth CBD and Northbridge entertainment precinct and is used by thousands of city workers and residents daily.
