Brad Hogg takes on rally racing in Perth CBD event
Ex-Australian cricketer Brad Hogg raced in a time-speed-distance category at Perth's Tarmac West motorsport event on Sunday and finished third.
Brad Hogg, who played 123 one-day internationals and seven Tests for Australia before retiring in 2008, competed in the Tarmac West rally racing event on Sunday. Brad Hogg drove a 2016 BMW M140i with co-driver Lachlan White in the time-speed-distance category.
This category is designed for standard road cars and novice drivers. The category requires competitors to complete each stage as close as possible to a set time.
Early finishes are penalised more than late ones. Hogg said he had only been a passenger in hot laps before.
"It's fantastic that Tarmac West has a category for novices like me, which gives us a chance to be around experienced drivers," he said. The event drew 70 entries with 53 starters and 50 finishers.
Cars ranged from classic 1960s Fords to modern Teslas and Porsches. The streets of Perth's CBD became a racetrack along Riverside Drive and the Terrace Road carpark.
