Samuel Pepy's Cafe wins Launceston waffle battle with KFC and maple creation
Samuel Pepy's Cafe in Launceston won a two-week waffle competition with its KFC Waffle with Bacon and Canadian Maple.
Samuel Pepy's Cafe won the Waffle-licious competition run by Launceston Central. Six other venues also entered.
The winning waffle combines crispy fried chicken, bacon, fluffy waffles and Canadian maple syrup, and is made dairy-free and gluten-free. More than 300 patrons voted over two weeks and spent nearly $20,000 at participating cafes.
The waffle has been on the menu for six years. Owner Kylie Waldren said customers demanded its return when the cafe tried to remove it once.
The cafe is preparing to mark its 10th anniversary in 2026.
