Billiards table from Braidwood found after 125 years
A billiards table from Braidwood's Literary Institute was found again. It was being taken apart at a Sydney club.
Players at a Braidwood billiards group picked up a free table from the Berowra RSL Club. The group found a clue under one leg: a coaster marked "Braidwood Servicemen's Club".
Research linked the table to the Braidwood Literary Institute. The institute had many billiard tables between the 1860s and 1930s.
By the 1950s, one table had moved to the Servicemen's Club. Volunteers are fixing the table now with help from a Canberra company.
Restoration will cost about $5000. The group meets twice a week.
They put aside $10 at each meeting to help pay for the work. This echoes a tradition 125 years old.
