Ukrainian drone kills Russian general after Putin's false victory award
Major General Anton Grunis was killed by Ukrainian drone forces on September 12. Putin had awarded him the Hero of Russia just weeks before.
Ukrainian drone commander Robert Brovdi said Major General Anton Grunis died in eastern Ukraine on September 12. He was the seventh Russian military commander killed by Brovdi's forces.
Grunis reported directly to Vladimir Putin earlier this year. He said his troops helped capture Kostiantynivka.
Putin praised him and awarded him the Gold Star Hero of Russia in late August. The territorial claim is heavily disputed.
The US-based Institute for the Study of War said Russian forces had moved into the city. But they said Russia had not fully taken control of it.
The claim was part of a wider Russian information campaign. Another Russian commander, Apti Alaudinov, confirmed the death.
